Shofer's was established in 1914 when seventeen year old immigrant, Harry Shofer,
began his business in a modest storefront. Both affable and gregarious, Mr.
Shofer became a well known personality in Federal Hill, a quaint neighborhood in
Baltimore, and his business thrived. By the early 1930s, he expanded his growing
furniture enterprise by moving into a large building that had recently been vacated by Hecht's department store.
Shofer's remains in that location to this day and features one of the largest
displays of furniture in the state of Maryland spreading out over 70,000 square
feet on five floors; our selection of furniture is incomparable.
Unlike most furniture stores in the area, Shofer's has one of the most unique
assortments of furniture styles with prices to fit almost any budget.
While most stores feature only traditional or contemporary furniture displays,
Shofer's shows traditional, contemporary and transitional designs from over 200
manufacturers. With names like Baker, Henredon, Century and Hickory Chair - just
to name a few - you will be amazed at the variety of fine furniture options.
Shofer's is still owned and operated by its founding family, Harry Shofer's son,
Chairman Herb Shofer and Harry Shofer's grandson, President Hank Shofer. Both
dedicated Shofers can be seen at the store nearly every day. The tradition of
fine furniture and service continues to thrive making Shofer's one of the finest
furniture stores in the area. Visit our landmark at 930 South Charles Street.
