Dale was incredible. We bought a custom sectional, sitting chair, table set and china cabinet. We had an issue with the couch not being right but Shofer's fixed it, expedited the replacement and we got it (in) 4 weeks instead of 6-8 so we were extremely happy. We love our dining room furniture! Would definitely go here again. It is slightly expensive, but this is real furniture, not IKEA so it's to be expected. We love everything we bought.

I have ordered many pieces of furniture from Shofer’s over the last 10 years and have found this company to be excellent with customer service. They are very patient and knowledgeable with helping you pick out fabrics and designs. Delivery will take 6-8 weeks in most cases and I have always had my furniture delivered promptly, sometimes even a week earlier. Shofer’s offers many beautiful pieces from an assortment of manufacturers that are excellent quality. Walking through the store is a dream! You can get so many ideas for decorating. If you do not see exactly what you want, be sure to ask to see the books from the manufacturers because a bedroom set, for example, that you see in the store can be offered in a variety of styles and colors from that manufacturer. I have been very pleased with each of the 20 or so pieces I have purchased over the years and will continue to purchase more from here. Besides, I love supporting the local non-chain stores of Baltimore!

What began as a modest storefront business in 1914 has become a 70,000-square-foot showroom 92 years later. With one of the largest furniture showrooms in the state, if you can’t find it at Shofer’s, it doesn’t exist. From Baker to Hickory Chair to Drexel Heritage, there are styles to suit every taste and budget.

Your money would be well spent on this high quality furniture. You'll have furniture that will wear and serve you well. They also have a designer who has talent, patience and experience who will graciously help with even a small request. Expect at least an 8 week wait period (common if not purchasing off the floor) and a cash/credit card down payment will be required. Shofer's is always my first stop.

This Federal Hill institution is a throwback to the days when family-owned retail businesses were integral parts of city neighborhoods. Founded 1914 by a 17-year old immigrant, the store has been in its current location — an old department store — since the 1930s. Still owned and operated by the Shofer family, the store's five levels (45,000 square feet each), connected by wide staircases with carved banisters, show off traditional, contemporary and transitional styles from more than 200 manufacturers. As you enter, a salesperson greets you and gives you a short orientation but doesn't hover or pry about your intentions. The employees can provide design assistance with not only room layouts and upholstery choices but with ideas for wall coverings, window treatments and accessories. To get an idea of the staffers' design talents one only needs to browse the store's beautifully put-together vignettes of the upscale furnishings. Across Charles Street in a small storefront, the Shofer's Furniture Outlet Center is always worth a quick perusal. Floor samples and discontinued items make this their temporary home before bargain hunters snap them up. The jumble of furniture is not nearly as elegantly arranged as across the street but the staff is just as helpful.

We purchased new furniture for our home which included; bedroom, living room, dining room, and a sun-room. Our saleslady was complete and knew her business. She gave us ideas and suggestions. She was knowledgeable with colors and materials. We had to choose most of our things from a catalog. We would recommend them and would use them again when needed.

Many of Baltimore’s storied companies of yore have long vanished. But Shofer’s, first opened in 1914 in part of the same Federal Hill location (now some 70,000 square feet) it occupies today, has managed to hang on, probably because it’s helped establish Baltimore’s taste in furniture and home decor for almost a century.

No matter your style, be it over-the-top leopard print or staid, proper leather, Shofer’s probably has something for you. Looking for a bargain? Don’t miss checking the outlet center, located across the street.
